How you got into football: Sports have always been a huge part of my life. I started playing rugby in high school and after I graduated I was introduced to football. I decided to give it a try and I fell in love with the game immediately. I started off my first season as a middle linebacker and I absolutely loved it. From there I was placed as a running back, playing both sides of the ball.

Two Truths & a LIE!
— My mother was born in Aruba, the Caribbean
— My Father is from Guyana
— I have 19 tattoos

In Her Own Words:
I was born in Calgary, Alberta in Canada. My Mom was a single mom and always had me doing something physical. I was on a baseball team when I was maybe 5 years old and she put me in dances classes for many years. I lived in Calgary till I was about 9 years old when my Mom married my step dad and I moved to a small town outside of the city called Langdon. I played basketball and volleyball in my junior high years. I then moved to Chestermere High School come 9th grade. I played on the soccer team, the rugby team, the badminton team and I ran track and field.

When it came to Rugby my dad was my biggest fan! He came to every game he could. I remember that’s when I fell in love with weight training. How it made me feel and how much stronger and faster it made me — I loved the feeling. I lost my dad to lung cancer and I was not able to return to the game.

Then I was introduced to football. I was named captain one year and received offensive player of the year, 2 years in a row. I tried out as DB in 2010 for Team Canada my very first year and unfortunately did not make it to second round try outs. In the summer of 2016 I decided to try out for Team Canada again. I was then invited to the second round try outs held in December, I tried out as fullback.Lisa Gomes, Team Canada, Detroit Dark Angels, Detroit Football,, Women's Tackle Football, Women’s Football, Team USA Football, USWNT, USA Women’s Football, Womens Football Alliance, Womens Professional Football, Womens World Games, Women’s Pro Football, Women’s Pro Tackle Football, NFL Women, Women’s Football, Football Women, Womens Tackle Football, Football, WFA football, NFL, pro football, WFA, women’s gridiron, Women’s Football Alliance, NCAA football, women’s sports, Title IX, tackle football, girls tackle football, Women’s World Championships, american football, Massey Ratings, BackseatCoach, Title IX Football, Flag Football

In that time frame I had made the decision to move to Toronto with my dog and that’s where I currently live. Moving here was a truly a great thing for me. I have learned to appreciate the little things in life, like detours that have an amazing view of the sun rising. I also fell in love with driving. I love travelling and being so close to the border is a blessing for road trips! I got to meet my long-lost half-brother Robbie and my Nephew Aydan as well. I like fishing with them all weekend and watching And Toronto Blue Jays games. I am just starting to become a baseball fan! But let be honest, football is number one now 🙂

In January 2017, I received an email that I made Team Canada. I remember calling my sister just crying my eyes out. I was so happy and she thought something bad had happened! It was a wonderful moment in my life. I currently play football with the Detroit Dark Angels because it is the closest woman’s tackle football team to Toronto.

Football is actually my life now. I wish I could have shared this with my Dad every day. I know he would have been proud of me and how far I have come. It’s not every day that you get to wear the Canadian logo and represent your country for all its worth.

See you all in BC!
