In Her Own Words
Growing up, I loved playing sports. I played soccer for four years, basketball for two, and shot put and discus my junior and senior year in high school. I placed third in state for discus and second for shot put. Like many Americans, Sundays was designated for football, as well as the occasional Mondays. My family and I spent hours in front of the television watching the Redskins.
Football is my outlet. Shortly after starting my first year with the Divas, my mother was diagnosed with cancer that spread to her bone marrow. Football allowed me to release all the emotions I was unable to express. Sadness, frustration, anger, and fear consumed me and football saved me. After 4 months of weekly chemo treatments, my mother was in remission and is still going strong six years later. I only wish I learned about this organization sooner. When I eventually retire, I plan to give back what so many players and coaches have given me. Knowledge, guidance, and leadership to young women who want to play football.
