Division 3 Southeast Region

Orlando Anarchy at Derby City Dynamite

-Michael Burmeister

In the 2019 Women’s Football Alliance D3 Southeast Region Championship, we get a rematch of a first-round game from last season, only this time it’s the #2 seed, the defending D3 National Champions Orlando Anarchy (7-1, 2-0 D3) making the 867-mile trip up I-75 for the big rematch against the #1 seed Derby City Dynamite (5-2, 5-0 D3), themselves looking for redemption for last year’s loss in Florida.

All-time series: Anarchy lead, 1-0

Points: Anarchy 38, Dynamite 14

Last meeting: The Anarchy beat the Dynamite 38-14 in the D3 Southeast Region Semifinal on June 16, 2018 in Florida.

Meeting of the year: Only

Thoughts on the Anarchy: In case anybody had thought that the Anarchy would lose a SINGLE step from last year’s National Championship season, they could not be more wrong! Still proving themselves quite possibly Florida’s best team (their only defeat being a SUPER-close season finale against D2’s Tampa Bay Inferno), the Anarchy have outscored their opponents 372-101 over the course of the year, with Kristal Holmes at the helm and the four-woman offensive attack of Chandice Hunter, Brittany Koziara, Crystal Bell and Cabriel Duren leading the charge! Once again finding themselves Massey-vely underrated, the Anarchy are ready to make ANOTHER big statement by making it back-to-back titles in Colorado this July…they begin their quest in a rematch against the Dynamite team they beat to begin their title run last year…a win over them would be EVERY bit the statement they’ll need to once again have all pundits’ eyes on them.

Thoughts on the Dynamite: In what is quite possibly the best season ever for a team from Louisville, the Dynamite have been BLASTING through the competition this year, going 5-0 against their D3 peers and putting up some FANTASTIC fights against their D2 opponents (both of whom made their division’s playoffs, might I add). No doubt about it, DCD’s team culture has VASTLY improved since Thomas Jackson took the reins, and now the Dynamite enjoy home-field advantage all throughout their playoff run, ready to clear a path all the way to Golden in their next two games! If they can knock off the defending champs in this opener to get payback for last year’s first-round loss, it would be EXACTLY what the doctor ordered to jump-start their own run to the natty.

The questions are: Will the Anarchy once again prove exactly how strong #CoryStrong and #JahquiStrong are, pulling off the road victory to set themselves up as the favorites to win a third straight D3 National Conference title? Or will the Dynamite pick up their biggest win in team history, with all the energy needed to capture Kentucky’s first women’s football title…to #EarnIt?
